In the spotlight: NBN and the Lismore App

Last week, Plan C founder, Jean Renouf, and the dedicated Nimbin CCR, Zach Rook, shared how Plan C and the CCR program is shaping resilience in Northern NSW in interviews with NBN News, which you can watch below:

This insightful dialogue followed a deep-dive story from The Lismore App, throwing light on our journey in creating a resilient and united Northern Rivers community.

You can read the Lismore App article in full here but in summary, our message was clear: The challenges of our time – from climate crises to epidemics of loneliness – call us to reorient every facet of our lives. To do that, we need to build community that is connected and prepared.

"Our Plan is the Community" is not just a slogan. It is the deep understanding that no amount of skills, knowledge, food storage, security or money will be enough. We all need each other to get through the challenges that lie ahead.

As summarised in the Lismore App and on the NBN News, the Community Carers and Responders (CCR) program is one way of illuminating a path to a resilient Northern Rivers, through:

  • Training: Over a span of five days, our CCRs are armed with vital skills that include disaster recovery, non-violent communication, and interfacing with emergency services. This invaluable training, inclusive of first aid and psychological first aid, is provided free and is thanks to the generosity of our donors and the grants we've been fortunate to secure.

  • Community Projects: From small neighbourhood initiatives to expansive regional projects, 68 projects (and counting!) are already making a tangible difference across the Northern Rivers.

  • Mentoring: Our one-on-one mentorship ensures project ideas are supported and connected. Through collaborations with entities like the CWA, Men’s Shed and firefighting agencies, we’re sewing a tapestry of community disaster plans.

  • CCR Events & Workshops: Our periodic workshops and community events are designed to hone our CCRs’ practical skills and bring like-minded people together.

As we brace for the end of the year, with very real concerns about El Nino eventuating, and tirelessly work to secure funding for our future programs, this could be your last window of opportunity to be a part of this monumental movement. Check your calendars, make room for transformation, and book your slot.
