Inclusive and Accessible
We’re thrilled to launch our new project, Inclusive and Accessible, designed to support some of the most underrepresented members of our community in building disaster resilience.
Thanks to grant support from the NSW Reconstruction Authority’s Supporting Spontaneous Volunteers Program (SSVP), a NSW Government initiative, we’ll be working across Ballina, Byron, Tweed and Lismore LGAs, focusing on increasing the capacity, confidence, and disaster planning skills of people who are often excluded from traditional preparedness efforts — people with disabilities and their carers, First Nations peoples, LGBTIQ+ community members and those doing it tough financially.
Together, we’ll co-design and deliver flexible workshops, whether it’s a full-day, half-day, or quick two-hour session, to build real-world, practical skills in preparing for and responding to disasters. We aim to directly reach around 300 participants, with ripple effects across their families and networks, benefiting up to 1,500 people.
This is all about making sure EVERYONE has the tools, knowledge and connections to feel empowered and supported - before, during and after disaster strikes.
This project covers the following:
Conflict management: Wardell
Jubullum community resilience
Starting the conversation: Disaster planning for community members with support needs and carers
