We received a grant to expand our CCR program!

The NSW Department of Communities and Justice understood that one of the best ways to support communities after the floods is to support NGOs who are already on the ground by funding the expansion of their existing projects.

This means we are able to increase our capacity to help Northern Rivers residents affected by the 2022 floods to transition from flood recovery to community resilience by tripling the number of Community Carers and Responders (CCR) across the Northern Rivers and by expanding our community resilience mentoring offering to the wider Northern Rivers population well beyond our current target group.

Our 'Community Carers and Responders' project currently trains, equips and supports locals to become a network of 100 volunteer CCRs to assist with flood recovery, community building and disaster resilience. Participants undertake 5 days of training, receive equipment and are supported to implement resilience-building projects in their own community.

We have received ongoing positive feedback about our CCR program and there is already high interest in future training. Wendy, a CCR participant, says “This first day of training was life changing. Honestly the best day of this entire year. Huge energy shifts for us all. Thank you.”

Our ‘Community Resilience Mentoring’ project has just started and will build communities' capacity to implement resilience-building projects by facilitating the mentoring of community members by other community members.

Both projects are being delivered in partnership with local councils, resilience/recovery officers, disaster agencies and community organisations across 6 Northern Rivers LGAs.

We are delighted to be able to open our CCR project and mentoring project to more participants and welcome you to apply here.
