Grounded in connection: Culture camp builds disaster resilience
This week, Plan C and The Returning have come together to host a powerful five-day Culture Camp on Bundjalung Country. The camp is bringing together Indigenous and non-Indigenous participants in an intergenerational, two-way learning space, blending disaster preparedness with cultural knowledge and connection to Country.
Through hands-on sessions, group reflections, and shared time on Country, participants are exploring how we can care for one another, and the land, during times of crisis. Whether we are learning about emergency planning, or sitting by the fire listening to stories, a clear message is ringing true:
Resilience doesn’t begin with equipment or checklists. It begins with relationships.
As we often say at Plan C:
"I can only be safe if my neighbour is safe, and they can only be safe if their neighbour is safe."
Huge thanks to the Elders, facilitators, and everyone who is participating this week with open hearts and minds. We are looking forward to hearing how the rest of the week unfolds.
December camp coming up
We’re returning to Bundjalung Country from 1–5 December 2025 for another five-day Culture Camp.
At this next camp, we’ll continue building emotional, social, and practical skills that help us respond to floods, fires, and life’s disruptions while also deepening our understanding of how culture and community shape true resilience.
If you’re ready to prepare for disasters in a way that honours connection, reciprocity, and care for Country, we’d love to have you there.
