Celebrating NAIDOC at Jubullum Village
We had a very special day at the Jubullum NAIDOC Celebration, celebrating Wahlabul culture, history and people alongside the Jubullum community.
A huge thank you to Gungyah Ngallingnee Aboriginal Corporation and Jubullum Local Aboriginal Land Council for inviting us to be part of the day. It was a privilege to be there, to listen, learn and share in such a vibrant community celebration.
Plan C partnered with Seed Arts to create a hands-on disaster preparedness activity that proved popular with kids and adults alike. Participants tackled an obstacle course, making their way over “floodwater” and under “fallen debris”, while collecting the essential items they would choose for an emergency grab bag along the way.
There were plenty of laughs, but the activity also sparked some great conversations. People shared their own experiences of floods and bushfires and talked about what they would need to take with them if they had to leave home quickly — from water, food and first aid supplies to pets, family and treasured belongings.
We were honoured to spend the day with the Jubullum community, learning from local knowledge and experiences while having a lot of fun along the way.
