Well, it feels like Spring didn’t hang around long, did it? While we are admiring the silky oaks and jacarandas in bloom, a dry heat has swept in and it feels like summer already. So much for the predicted wet Spring! The weather seems more unpredictable than ever which is a fitting reminder that when it comes to disaster preparedness, the best time to start is now.
Whether it’s heatwaves, bushfire risk, drought, or sudden storms and floods, we know how quickly things can shift in our region. The truth is, we can't always count on forecasts but we can count on each other. One of the simplest, most powerful ways to build resilience is to connect with your neighbours. Remember, we don't have to be best friends, but can we be good neighbours? A conversation, a shared plan, a contact list. These things can make a real difference.
Have you joined or started a local community resilience group yet? You can explore existing groups on our Community Resilience Map and if yours isn’t listed, we’d love you to add it in. It’s free, simple, and a great step towards building a more prepared and connected community.
