Preparing with Pride kicks off in Lismore
Our very first Preparing with Pride workshop was pure magic.
The first week’s topic was Psychological First Aid and from the moment our Program Director, Rena, and Project Coordinator, Jen, stepped into The Tropical Fruits HQ in Lismore, they were embraced with warmth, colour, and community. The youngest participant was just 14 months old, and a wiggly staffy called Audrey made sure everyone felt welcome!
Ten locals gathered in a circle and opened their hearts, sharing powerful stories of how disasters have touched their lives; not only the challenges of fire, flood, and storm, but what it has meant to face those crises as members of the LGBTQI+ community. We heard stories of the way queer communities look after one another, create welcoming spaces, and carry resilience born from lived experience. We shared ways to support others through tough times and we laughed, we reflected, and we learnt simple but profound ways to steady ourselves when things feel overwhelming. We discovered that resilience is built not just in crises, but in the everyday ways we care for each other.
There’s still time to join us! The Preparing with Pride series continues throughout September with two more Sunday workshops:

September 28 – Working with Official Agencies During Crises
